Scintigraphic Study of Lymph Nodes in Malignant Neoplams

Abstract
In an attempt to evaluate the diagnosis of prognosis of the malignant neoplasm, the author investigated clinically the scintigraphic features of the regional lymph nodes such as para-aortic, iliac, and inguinal nodes in 35 cases of the patients with cervical cancer, in 15 cases of the patients with chronic cervicitis and in 15 cases of control normal persons 24 hours after interdigital subcutaneous injection of colloidal radiogold in both feet. The cervical cancer and chronic cervicitis was histologically diagnosed. And postoperatively the patholgical features of the lymph nodes were compared with those of the scintigraphic features of them.
The results thus obtained were as follows:
1. In the 15 control normal persons, there was a well defined accumulation of the radioactivity on the regional lymph nodes in all the subjects.
2. In the 35 patients with cervical cancer, there was various scintigraphic abnormal concentration of the radioactivity in regional lymph nodes of all: the subject; five cases showed doubtful cold region and 30 cases definite cold region.
And postoperatively, the metastatic lesions of the regional lymph nodes were seen only one cases among the five doubtful cases and in 23 cases of the 29 cases with definite cold region.
3. In the 15 cases of the patients with chronic cervicitis, there was various figures, such as doubtful cold region, hypertrophic patterns with high conncentration of the radiogold in the regional lymph nodes.
And postoperatively no metastatic lesions of the regional lymph node were seen in all subjects.
As above, the author suggests that the scintigraphic examination of the regional lymph nodes in the malignant neoplasm should be used to decide the local, shape and size of the lymph nodes with metastatic lesions and it seems significant methods for the diagnosis and follow up progression of the lesions.
